Connections: Special Needs Parent Group

Connections is a monthly meetup for parents of children with special needs. Come and meet other families experiencing a similar life path and enjoy a safe space to share your story and hear from experts in the field. Doors will open at 6:45 pm with a guest speaker at 7 pm. This month: educational diagnostician and local autism provider will present on getting your children prepared for the upcoming new school year.

About this month's guest speakers: 

Kathleen Edwards, M. Ed. has over 35 years working with students of all ages, their families, educators, physicians, and clinicians.  She has served as a special education teacher, educational diagnostician, and school administrator in various public, private, and university settings. In 2022, Ms. Edwards began a new venture when she opened Reimagining Education in Grapevine, Texas. Reimagining Education provides Psychoeducational and Educational Evaluations for individuals between the ages of 5 and 94. Parent Coaching, Academic Coaching, and Advocacy Services for families raising students that struggle within the school and home settings are also available.Through the years, she has assisted countless families as an educational advocate, educational diagnostician, and parent educator. Ms. Edwards is a mother of two sons with learning differences and is an adult with ADHD herself. 

Jennifer Helten is the founder and CEO of Unique Pathways, a private company in Grapevine, TX. Unique Pathways provides developmentally appropriate Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Unique Pathways serves children as early as two years of age through 22 years of age. Ms. Helten has assisted in the design of IEPs, shadowed in private schools throughout the DFW metroplex, designed training for schools and faculty, designed and led annual summer camps, developed shadowing programs for private schools and was a Director for Accommodated Learning Academy. Additionally, she sits on multiple expert panels to assist ABA owners. Ms. Helten is married and is a mother of a learning different child.
